For the reconstruction of Japanese roof tile culture

These days, in Japanese construction and housing construction industries, there is a

very strong headwind blowing against “roof tiles” because of misunderstandings and harmful rumors prevailed every time when earthquake and typhoon attack Japan.

It is a matter of course that we are keenly concerned about such crisis in the history of 114 years since our foundation of 1883.

After hitting the peak in 1973, the production of roof tiles continued to decline, and at present moment, the shipped volume of “Japanese roof tiles and blacken (IBUSHI) roof tiles” has dropped sharply to only 3 % of total number of roof tiles shipped at that time of 1973. Furthermore the Great Hanshin Awaji Earthquake of 1994 has driven to the decrease of the shipment.

“Roof tiles are heavy”, the rumors caused by misunderstanding has accelerated non use of roof tiles and we are facing serious danger that the roof tile culture continued for more than 1400 years shall be discontinued.

To understand the original goodness of roof tiles better, we have studied whether we could make certain personal belongings out of Ibushi (blacken) roof tile materials, in addition to promotion of Ibushi roof tiles itself.

To know roof tiles products, like coasters, ornaments, Netsuke and Magnet.. maybe it is enough to simply touch the roof tiles, but our goal is to make the roof tiles familiar again to our daily life use.

In view of declining market for roof tile industry, I decided to devote myself in developing its industry as a person involved in that industry.
